Amarnath Yatra Continues Amidst Rain
Despite the adverse weather, the ongoing Amarnath Yatra is proceeding smoothly, with pilgrims visiting the holy cave in the southern Himalayas. The persistent rain since Tuesday has raised safety concerns along the pilgrimage route, leading authorities to closely monitor the movement of devotees from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Officials are implementing necessary safety measures to protect the pilgrims during this heavy rainfall.
Weather Forecast and Safety Advisory
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the Director of MET in Srinagar, indicated that the weather is expected to remain predominantly cloudy from July 16 to 17 and again from July 21 to 23, with intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers in various regions. He warned that intense rainfall and isolated heavy showers could occur during these periods.
Additionally, from July 18 to 20, scattered to widespread rain or thundershowers are anticipated. The MET Centre's advisory highlights the risk of flash floods in susceptible areas, landslides, mudslides, and falling rocks along hilly routes and major highways, particularly during intense weather events.
Residents, especially those in flood-prone or landslide-prone regions, are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated on weather conditions.
